One of the best desktop video players is VLC Media players available at http://www.videolan.org/ or Apple's Quicktime available at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/. I would recommend, if you haven't already done so, pay the extra money for Quicktime Pro, which will allow you to edit the videos you download. I use both programs depending on what I want to do. For downloading YouTube videos, if you want to have a very powerful desktop program, YouTube Downloader HD is available at http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/ or Keep Tube, which is a browser plug-in, available at http://keep-tube.com/.
